So with that in mind, it is truly my pleasure to introduce, you, my lovely Red Carpet Curls Royalty, to this week's Natural Beauty Brand of the Week; Bourn Beautiful Naturals.

What is Bourn Beautiful Naturals?

Bourn Beautiful Naturals is a small natural hair  and beauty products company based in the United Kingdom. This black woman- owned business makes hand-crafted products for naturally kinky-curly hair. As the website states, "The ethos of Bourn Beautiful Naturals is all about maintaining hair and skin's optimal moisture balance in  formulas that are both effective and feel luxurious. We achieve that mainly through vegan and vegetarian ingredients." So my beautiful curly queens you know what that means. Yes, you are exactly right, your best friend (a.k.a me) has found you a small gem in the massive and sometimes overwhelming sea of curly girl method approved products.

Bourn Beautiful Naturals all started back in 2014 when the brand's beautiful owner/creator, Kadian, was tired of subjecting herself to dangerous chemicals listed on natural hair products sold at beauty supply stores. We can't blame you girl, as each of us have become more educated on the Curly Girl Method, I am sure we have all had that moment standing in either the beauty supply store/local convenience store/ or even pharmacies and really analyzed the ingredients list of some of our favorite products just to be horrified with what we have been exposing ourselves to.

Kadian began with making her own conditioners until she developed the entire line in  November 2016 and began to sell them online.

Bourn Beautiful Naturals makes hand-crafted products in Britain for naturally kinky-curly hair, along with hand-crafted products to promote healthy radiant skin. All the haircare products are free from:
  • Sulfates
  • Silicones (Recently finished reformulating to ensure the hair products are all CG approved!)
  • Parabens
  • Mineral Oil
  • Petroleum
  • TEA and DEA
  • Wheat
Everyone knows the key to moisturized and healthy hair is water, therefore, it stands to reason that water should be a key ingredient in any formula we use. Well lucky for us, Bourn Beautiful Naturals feels the same way, that's why water is key to 90% of their products.

Bourn Beautiful Naturals believes the balance of moisture in skin and hair is the key to optimal performance. That is also the ideology all their products are designed with in mind.

Bourn Beautiful Naturals gets it's name from the Bourn Brook, a body of water that is the namesake of Bournsville where the business was born.

Okay, now that you know everything you need to know about the company and their founder, how about we jump right into the Red Carpet Curls Reviews: Bourn Beautiful Naturals!

What Products Did I Use?

Let's start with packaging. Okay, so if you have been following me on social media for a while, you know one of the most important things to me is packaging believe it or not. Normally, the first thing curly girls are worried about is the smell of the product. Not me, I can always cover up a fragrance I am not too crazy about. But see, here's the thing about packaging. If the company does not consider that a big deal they fail a test with me. Packaging is all detail, it's a way to make a statement to the consumer that you took the time to really curate not only a great package of products for them, but also a great experience.

The package was beautiful with a very personalized touch, a post card. The owner, Kaidan, goes on to share her excitement about this review. From reading her words, a smile was already plastered on my face. Without even touching the products yet, I already felt a sense of warmth and loyalty with this company. Far more intimate than the big brand packages. I can honestly say, having been in this field for the last two years, I never recieved an order from a big brand competitor that offered this much attention to detail.

Once I opened the package, this is the exact thing I saw. Cute trendy black paper with a nice splash of purple color with the little packing shreading. I thought it was adorable and even matched the color of the Moisture Silk Sulfate Free Shampoo! I don't know about any of you but I have never seen a purple shampoo before, let alone come across one with this reaction....

Moisture Silk Sulfate-Free Shampoo:

As you can see, the formula has a thick and luxurious appearance and feel to it. I have been trying for days now to figure out how to describe the scent for you. Alas, the words have failed me, the best way I can describe it is...relaxing. From the moment I took a big sniff of the formula any tension in me immediately released. It smells like a the sweetness of flowers. Whatever the specific fragrance is, it's a lovely combination that really elevates a normal shower to a true luxurious experience. Here's a little side tip: pair your wash day with some classical music or violin music in the background, watch how quickly the worries of the day wash away with the build up in your hair.

I would consider the shampoo to be more of a low-poo (a shampoo with gentle cleansers that create suds when washing) since it did foam up rather nicely. Normally, since curly hair is prone to being more dry than straight hair, I  try to co-wash more often than shampoo. Normally, shampoos give me that "squeaky-clean" feeling, but at the expense of all my scalp and hair's natural oils. This leaves my my hair exceptionally dry and prone to split ends and breakage.

Once I started to massage it onto my scalp it foamed up quickly, but it began hydrating my hair as it continued to spread. I did pre-poo before I attempted this wash and go, that means my hair and scalp were incredibly oily. The fact that this shampoo not only removed it but hydrated my hair so much the tangles literally melted away as my fingers glided through my hair, is a true testament to the power of natural ingredients.

The formula was in fact so moisturizing that my curls, which had been incredibly undefined and prone to frizz lately since I am due for my hair trim, began to clump up instantly. I had been struggling a lot with result pictures the last few weeks. Since I take my hair growth journey very seriously I drink lots of water, supplements, eat pretty well. All for my hair to grow quickly. Let me tell you... it does. The only con for me is, my hair is so fine and gets weighed down easily, which is what makes the shape of my haircut especially important. I have to get my hair trimmed every 2-3 months (normally every 2 months right down to the day) in order to keep my volume and curl definition. Once my hair grows out of my shape, it is a lot harder to control and hold. I normally have to incorporate finger- coils at this point to get more uniform curls. But this shampoo took care of that step for me, by giving my curls the TLC they needed to come back to life and back to their respective clumps! Quite honestly, It's so moisturizing you could even skip deep conditioning and go right to styling, but since the winter months are upon us, I wasn't that brave.

Coconut Cream Deep Conditioner:
Ah! Deep conditioning, my favorite part of washday! So by now, if you have read most of the articles on this site, or even if you have been following me for a while, you know how vital deep conditioning at least once a week is for your waves/curls/coils. Of course, I utilized the assistance of my Q-redew handheld steamer to "step up" my deep conditioning game by allowing the heat of the vapor to "open" the hair cuticles to allow this formula to really penetrate and work.

This Coconut Cream Deep Conditioner is packed with pure coconut milk, making it rich in vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6. This formula will nourish hair with the proteins from its rich fatty acid profile. Shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, maracuja oil and silk protein leave hair super soft and luxurious.

NOTE: This formula has been majority tested on high porosity fine hair, similar to mine (3a/3b, Fine, High Porosity Curls) but that is not to say my lovely low porosity queens cannot enjoy! I strongly encourage investing in a steamer either hair or clothing steamer to utilize in your routine, to make sure your products penetrate your hair instead of sitting right on top, weighing hair down.

My beautiful #RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty! I cant even wait to type up the written review, I just had to share this with you. So recently, I stumbled across an awesome small mom and pop natural hair product line called @bbnaturalsuk. Let's call it fate, I needed to find new lines that were better for my hair than most store bought brands. I typed in natural in the Instagram search engine, and boom here they came to save the day. @bbnaturalsuk is a small brand located in the United kingdom. It is all about maintaining hair and skin's optimal moisture balance in formulas that are both effective and feel luxurious. They achieve that mainly through vegan and vegetarian formulas. So far on this washday, I've used the sulfate free shampoo and deep conditioner. (Shampoo will have a seperate post for its first impressions review) but lord! Let me tell you about this coconut cream deep conditioner! Beside the adorable cute pink fluffy whipped appearance. The aroma is so sweet like cotton candy. Not gonna lie if I didnt know better I would be super tempted to taste it 😂 The conditioner glided on nicely and sucked up the water that was in my hair. Immediately my curls which have been frizzy lately clumped up. The shine and definition was suprising! It hadn't even been on five minutes and my curls which were visibly thirsty are immediately happy again! Packed with pure coconut milk, rich in vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6, this deep conditioner will nourish hair with the proteins from its rich fatty acid profile. Shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, maracuja oil and silk leave hair super soft and luxurious. So far I call already tell it's going to be an amazing hair week! 👑
A post shared by Red Carpet Curls (@redcarpetcurls) on

As you can see from the video (Hey! Don't forget to follow red carpet curls on instagram) the deep conditioner glided on very nicely. I am one to try to save as much of my products as possible, since I have fine hair, my hair gets weighed very quickly. So, there's no point in using a ton of product, it will waste it quicker and my hair won't benefit if it's weighed down. For this reason, I apply pea sized amounts of deep conditioner at a time. I was shocked with how little product I actually needed. My hair just seemed to soak it up!

By the time I got the product on and applied steam from my Q-redew hair steamer, My curls exceeded any expectation I had! As you can see from the photo, my curls clumped up, curled up, and even achieved definition by itself without me even having to scrunch or finger coil! I left the deep conditioner in for 30 minutes with a plastic cap and proceeded to rinse with cold water.

TIP: The reason I rinse my deep conditioner out with cold water is so that the cold water shocks my high porosity hair cuticles into sealing properly so all that newfound moisture will not disappear. It also gives a very nice shine. If you are high porosity, I definitely recommend ending with a cold rinse. If you are low porosity, please do not do the cold rinse as your cuticles are already so tightly shut.

Leave Me Be Leave- In Conditioner:

The Leave Me Be Leave- In Conditioner  is very lightweight and mildly fragrant (for those sensitive  to fragrances) Within the first two ingredients you see exactly where your moisture is coming from do-ionised water (purified water), and aloe vera juice.

This lightweight conditioner glides on easily to the hair, making it a breeze to quickly apply. This product is so moisturizing I didn't even have to seperate sections of my hair to ensure it fully coated my hair. After my final cold rinse, i kept my dripping hair upside down and just raked in pea sized amounts of product at a time.

The conditioner smooths the hair cuticle and acts as a protective foundation for styling products to follow.

It is also Glycerin free, for those of you that are avoiding the heavy humectants during the winter season, this conditioner is a great choice to keep your hair moisturized!

Curl Please! Curling Custard:
The Curl Please! Curling Custard was the most interesting of all the products to me. It has a mousse-like consistency which helps in applying. The website describes the product as "A whipped curling custard that contains coconut milk, aloe vera, mango butter, hemp seed oil, silk and goji berry extracts. Moisturizes kinks and curls, setting them in place so they they pop and shine. Perfect for twist outs, braid outs or wash and gos. No crunch, no stickiness."

They didn't lie my queens let me tell you that! By the time my hair was completely dry three hours later, I did have a nice cast but it was easily removable when I scrunched out the crunch with my That's That Magic Hair and Body Oil. My hair stood as soft as silk all day and day 2! Didn't have to refresh until day 3 because I found in my first attempt at styling with the products I was too conservative in the measurement of custard, so, I needed a bit more hold.

Refresh Attempt: Day 3

The products I used to refresh on day 3 were basic, please remember refreshes are meant to be done with 1-2 products max. Refreshes are meant to reactivate the product you applied on washday. The products I used are:

  1. Knot-Free Detangling Moisturizer
It's no secret that curly hair is much more prone to split ends and breakage because the scalps natural oils can't make it all the way down the spirals of the curls. So, that means we have to be regularly moisturizing our hair. My personal favorite way to do that is with sprays like this. Keep your strands supple, silky and nourished with this coconut-oil infused, light spray mist. Also great for refreshing an old style, or transitioning styles on dry hair.

2. Curl Please! Curling Custard:
Now that I had already had experience with the whipped custard, I knew it wasn't heavy like Shea Moisture Custards. It was lighter, whipped, with a mousse-like texture. So instead of 2-3 pea sized amounts. I used about 4 pea sized amounts.

I ended with using the Knot-Free Detangling Moisturizer to re-soak my hair to do finger coils for more uniformed curls until my trim on November 1st. Here were my results:

By far one of the best refreshes I have ever experienced! Did I mention as I publish this article I am on day 5 of this wash and go and I have not had to refresh since day 3?! The true mark of quality products!

Well, I hope my honest review has helped some of you with the decision of making your next natural hair care purchase. I truly believe it was fate that helped me find this brand and discover the luxurious experience of the products.

Xtava Black Orchid Diffuser Compatible Hair Dryers

What is the Xtava Black Orchid? A diffuser that is bigger than the normal ones on the market. Has tiny holes in the prongs to help distribute air quickly and efficiently through the hair to help dry quicker. The large bowl allows for quicker drying time for even the thickest of manes. This diffuser gives maximum definition to every texture from waves to coils. Since the diffuser is much larger in regards to width than normal ones on the market, (Xtava black orchid width: 1.8inch diameter) finding dryers to fit the diffuser without having to take out the little ring inside the diffuser is tricky. Xtava Black Orchid Nozzle Measure = 6 inch circumference Please note that the Xtava Black Orchid Diffuser is not a universal diffuser. A quick trick to help adjust the diffuser a bit more to your current dryer is taking the internal ring out of the diffuser, allowing it to open up more and accomodate a larger variety of dryers. Here is a list of dryers I have compiled that fit the X

Olaplex #3

Everything You Need to Know About Olaplex # 3 What is Olaplex #3? Olaplex #3 is called the "hair perfector." It is neither a protein treatment, moisture treatment or deep conditioner.  It is a bond builder. Olaplex #3's main function is to relink the broken disulfide bonds in every single hair type. It provides real structural repair that works from within. Broken bonds often result in split ends and breakage. Similar to a protein treatment, Olaplex #3 provides structure to repair those bonds and prevent split ends and breakage. It penetrates the disulfide in the cortex of the hair that gets damaged from chemical treatments or the overuse of direct hot tools such as hair straighteners. The cortex (center) is responsible for the hair's color, texture, and strength. Once those bonds are damaged or dry that is when split ends and breakage occur. How Do I use Olaplex #3? Here's a few tips to help answer the FAQ about the olaplex steps: Olaplex is meant to

Everything You Need to Know About Hair Porosity (Including Tips for High and Low Porosity)

Photo Credit: Google Understanding your hair's porosity is by far one of the most valuable pieces of information you can possess when it comes to the health of your crown. Porosity dictates the pattern in which your hair absorbs and loses moisture. This will be invaluable when it comes time to pick the right products for your mane. Always remember, your hair is unique, your body chemistry, your genes, elements you are exposed to are all unique to you. This is why I always advise all new followers and fans to never compare your hair to someone else's, even your own family! (DNA is unique to each person, yes you share some DNA with family but you will still have unique features and chemistry.) I also always say, when introducing yourself to the Curly Girl Method, the first thing you should do is look up porosity and figure out which porosity your hair is, because in the long run this will save you SO much money and time! I know every fellow product junkie reading this arti
